“Melt” is a wood relief decorative mirror painted in lime wash. This is a playful abstraction of a melted diamond with fragmented pieces resembling cracks in concrete and rock formations.
Measures 33" in width, 46" in length and 1" in depth. Mirror is 16" in diameter.
This Mirror is part of the “Libertad” collection of bas-reliefs marks a striking departure from the artist’s customary monochrome practice, embracing instead a spirit of colorful playfulness, sensuality, and release. Each piece appears to ripple with motion: wild, flowing curves carve their way across the surface, organic and unrestrained, like wind-tossed fabric or currents of water. These gestural forms overlay a barely perceptible grid, a quiet underlying structure that suggests order and restraint, only to be broken open by the exuberant lines above it.
At the points where these arcs and curves intersect with the grid, the surfaces erupt in bursts of visual delight—tiny pockets of patterned reliefs, unexpected textural motifs, and pops of vibrant color. These moments of intersection feel celebratory, as though the rigid framework has been punctured to reveal joy beneath.
The title, Libertad —Spanish for “freedom”—underscores the collection’s essence: an emancipation from the artist’s self-imposed constraints, an embrace of vitality, and a reveling in the possibilities of form and color.
Made in Los Angeles' South Bay by artist Beatriz Salazar.
